Hey everyone, I'm cutting my hair to support conquering childhood cancers.
For the two years before medical school, I worked in pediatric oncology at the Jimmy Fund Clinic at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. I was in charge of working with patients enrolled on Phase 1 clinical trials for solid tumor cancers like osteosarcoma, Ewing sarcoma, and rhabdomyosarcoma. There were plenty of good days; there were inspiring research studies, compassionate doctors, grateful families, and hopeful kiddos. On the other hand, there were plenty of bad days; there were crying parents, frustrated physicians, untameable diseases, and suffering children. Most days, hope was the strongest thing holding together families, kids, and healthcare providers. The research supported by the St. Baldrick's Foundation helps to provide that hope to families around the country.
There are a lot of unknowns when it comes to cancer, but all I know for sure is that the research being done is making an invaluable impact. The people on the frontlines are dedicated and passionate about the work they do. In the past few decades the progress in research has been monumental, especially in the case of hematologic malignancies. Still, so much more needs to be done in regards to solid tumor cancers, quality of life for our patients, and long term side effects from these treatments. This research is extremely worthwhile and deserving of support.
I am donating my hair to the St. Baldrick's Foundation in order to contribute a small part in making the lives of the patients and their families better. I look forward to furthering my education in medical school so that I can continue to be a part of the research that has done so much, but still has so far to go.
Anyone that knows me knows how much I love a good messy bun on the top of my head. Help me say goodbye to it with a quick donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. Any donation you can make will be much appreciated.
xoxo Mo
