I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Girls Gone Hairless

When Matthew was born, it was a huge surprise. I had no idea what our journey together would be like. On January 8,2019 our whole life changed when he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic leukemia. Then, I had no idea what that meant or what it would be like. Matthew's battle with cancer was long and trying. We encountered so many obstacles. There was a lot of sleepless nights and days where Matthew was miserable from chemo treatments. After a very long 9 months we thought we were gonna finally see the light at the end of the tunnel but sadly Matthew relapsed before we could even go home. It was a heart breaking moment but we continued to fight. We tried 3 more different types of treatments but unfortunately they didn’t work either because Matthew's cancer was far too progressive and too refractory at this point. Sadly Matthew gained his angel wings on December 11, 2019. Many people asked how we got through it al,l the 300+ days in the hospital, being there for 30+ days at a time. Back when he was diagnosed I couldn’t really give much of an answer but we had to do what we have to. However, now when I’m asked I say I did it for him, for his joy, and happiness. He was a wonderful ray of life. Who left a huge impact on many people. In his short life he touched so many peoples lives to make change or change their views. Rest easy my sweet boy.  Kayla Weigelt, Matthew's mother.
