I'm stepping up to the plate and joining St. Baldrick's by shaving my head to raise money for childhood cancer research. St. Baldrick's is a volunteer and donor driven charity that solely funds grants for childhood cancer research by organizing events all over the globe with the goal of giving children with cancer the chance to live long, healthy lives. Did you know that childhood cancer research receives less than 5% of federal funding and very little help from pharmaceutical companies because drugs for childhood cancer is considered non profitable? I recently read an article and learned that prostate cancer (which has an average diagnosis age of 66 years) receives more funding than all childhood cancers combined (which has an average diagnosis age of 8 years). Something seriously needs to be done about this and that's what charities like St. Baldrick's have been trying to do.
While creating my profile I was given the opportunity to choose an Honor Kid. This is an individual who is either currently going through treatment, is in remission or has lost their life to this horrible disease. There was a list of Honor Kids on the website or I had the choice to choose someone that I knew personally. I decided that I wanted to choose someone that lived in my immediate area and that I didn't know personally. My Honor Kid is a young girl from Wilton who is currently going through treatments. Being a father myself and having 2 daughters her story kind of hit a little closer to home for me. I couldn't begin to imagine not just what she's been going through but what her parents have been through as well. Please take the time to read Anna's story and not only get a glimpse of what she's been through but also what her parents have been doing to not just raise money but awareness as well.
Now's the time where I need your help. I'm calling upon all of my family, friends, friends of family members, co-workers and anyone else comes across my profile to please make a donation. No matter how big or how small your donation is, every dollar raised will not only make a difference in Anna's life but in the lives of thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
Thank you.
