I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

Hey everyone I'm Maddie Thomas, a student at BHS. I will be shaving my head for cancer research next month right before school starts! I plan to donate my 19 inches of hair, and shave my head for the St. Baldrick's Foundation! I am very excited about helping this cause! The events that have occurred during this last year, in my own personal life, have inspired me to do this. I am dedicating the shave to my best friend of 16 years, Taylor Carlson, who lost her dad to cancer last summer (2012). As a second dad to me, Jimmy's lost was devastating, and I was in denial for almost a year. Along the way, I saw my second family suffering intensely while I sat on the side unable to help/improve the situation. Watching my (practically) sister go through that and being unable to help was one of the hardest things I've ever done. I'm raising money for children's cancer because I would be honored to lower the chance of another family going through the a similar situation. I am desperate to help young people avoid the depression that I was surrounded with this year. I am looking for donations of any amount! I plan to have the money I raise go to a local cause, supporting children with cancer in our New England Area. Although people are suffering everywhere, I'm a proud supporter of our community and feel passionate about it specifically. I'm having my head shaved to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government.

Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So when I ask for your support, I'm really asking you to support these kids. Thank you!
