I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

English:

Hi,

My name is Laura,

and cancer runs deep in my family.

In 2008, I lost my dear grandmother, Eva (pictured)

to a cancerous brain tumor. I’ll never forget the day she came home from UCSF after undergoing surgery to remove the cancer. She arrived with her head shaved, and staples in her scalp. I was only 11 years old then, but I had no idea how much that moment would change my life.

Though this organization is focused on cancer research for children, it serves as a personal tribute to my grandmother, as well as to the family members who have battled cancer, those who overcame it and those we lost. My heart is with them and the children who face similar battles today.

I didn't know how crucial cancer research was until after listening to stories of parents who have lost their children due to cancer, due to not enough research on the type of cancers that are out there.

Seven years ago, when I discovered St. Baldrick's, I planned to participate but didn't have the courage until this year as I move into my 30th year of life. This is the year I have found the courage to shave my head and stand in solidarity with these courageous children who face so much daily.

I would be so grateful for your support, whether through a donation or simply cheering me on.

With love and gratitude,

Laura G. Barajas

The photo you see as the 'before' is my grandmother Eva, who passed, holding me as a baby with an intentionally shaved head. So to me, this is a full circle moment to honor.

Español:

Hola,
