I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: de Vere's Pub Team

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: de Vere's Pub Team

Two years ago, I watched my friend, Kiana, raise $13,000 and shave her head for childhood cancer, and was very moved by her commitment. When I found out she was at it again this January 2016, and read her personal message on her fundraising page, her words spoke right to my heart and brought me to tears. I knew instantly it was time for me to join in this mission to do our part to support childhood cancer research. As Kiana explained from her experience, I want to 'walk a metaphorical mile', and capture as much attention as possible with fundraising and Rockin' a shaved head. I am CHOOSING to shave my hair off, in hopes some day, children who have NO CHOICE in this matter today, won't ever have to experience this. Children have always been a huge part of my life. From all my different roles as babysitter, swim coach, lifeguard, camp counselor, tutor, Big Sister, to doting on the little loves of my dear friends and cousins. I would be overjoyed to have a child call me Mama one day. Can you imagine having to hear those awful words "Your child has cancer"??  Children are JOY. But cancer steals the innocence and joy from another child EVERY THREE MINUTES!

Cheyenne was one of those children a year ago. I'm shaving for you, Cheyenne!

Adding even more meaning to my WHY: Finding out a new friend of mine, Shelby, lost her daughter many years ago, to brain cancer. Alex was a beautiful little three year old and fifteen years ago today, February 12, her family heard those unimaginable words. I've been inspired to action but this adds fuel to the flame indeed! This is for Angel Alex, Shelby, and their family, so hopefully one day, no one has to go through that experience. Childhood cancer research is underfunded. I hope together we can make a difference in the lives of our children of the future. Join me! Donate or join our team or another team near you if so inspired! Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
