Greetings!
This will be my second year shaving my head through St. Baldrick's and I am so excited to Brave the Shave! This past year, I lost my pal Brooks to Bob (IV inoperable brain tumors, called Astrocytomas, in his left thalamus and midbrain. The size of a golf balls.) Brooks was your average 5 year old boy, until his world flipped upside down when he was diagnosed with cancer. Brooks taught me to love deeper and to take brave leaps of courage to help those around me whenever possible, he taught me to Be Brooks Brave (you can learn more about Brooksy's story by clicking on his honored kid profile below). This year I will also be honoring my fellow softball player, Halle as she is currently undergoing treatment for brain cancer. Much like Brooks, Halle was a normal kid, until one day she was diagnosed with brain cancer. Due to their treatments, both Brooks and Halle lost their hair. By shaving my head this year, I not only want to raise money to help find a cure so no more kids have to go through what they have gone through, but I also want to honor/encourage them and other kids who have lost their hair to cancer, to let them know that they are not alone in their fight.
I'm shaving my head to raise money for childhood cancer research! Did you know that kids' cancers are different from adult cancers? It's true. And childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded. So I decided to do something about it by raising money for cures.
Now I need your help! Will you make a donation? Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
Even spare change or a few dollars can go a long way! My goal this year is $2,345 as that is the same number of days that Brooks got here on Earth.
Together we can make a difference, together we can change the world.
Cheers,
Darby
