Hi all, It is hard to believe that it has been nearly 7 years since I saw an article in The Times telling about St. Baldrick's Day in Ottawa at Jeremiah Joe Coffee and told my terminally ill mother that I would do that the next time it was held. I have done it every year, but one (Had a required meeting that year), ever since.
Last year I had my head shaved in honor of a little boy fighting acute myeloid leukemia whom I couldn't find on the St. Baldrick's site. His name is Shmuel Asher Uzziel ben haRav Michael Aharon v'haRav Pesah Esther; or simply Sam Sommer. This year I found him on the list of kids and I can actually tag him as the kid I am honoring. Sam doesn't know me, but I know him because his rabbi parents have kept a blog throughout Sam's fight. He twice seemed to go into remission. Once after Chemo treatments, and once following his bone marrow transplant in August 2013, but his "ninja cancer" was too strong, and his parents just learned that it is back and this time it is incurable, and thus terminal. Sam learned that he is going to die just one week after his 8th birthday. Unfortunately, Sammy lost his battle to his Nimja Cancer on December 14th at about 12:30 in the night.
In the 5 times I have been shaved, I have raise $4,202 to help in the fight against childhood cancer. I'd love to raise enough this year to make it an even $5,000. That means I need to raise at least $798.00 for this event. Please help me reach this goal.
