I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Team Brennan

NOTE: MARCH 23 6-8PM SPANISH POINT BOAT CLUB IS WHEN I WILL BE SHAVING MY HEAD!

Let me be perfectly honest with everyone who is here, I have never met my friend Brennan Watkins, the 5 (yes that's right FIVE) year old child who is in treatment for leukemia and who's team I have chosen to join and for whom I will shave my head. But I have met his mom Denise and his dad Mike.  I have heard countless stories about their struggles, challenges, triumphs and pitfalls and each anecdote brings me to tears.

This family shares a strength and courage beyond anything that I have ever witnessed. How three people can face the sheer magnitude of fear and pain, and go through it day after day for almost two years is what true human bravery looks like.

Denise, whom I have worked with for many hours to help raise funds for this incredible fundraiser, is not someone who cowers in the corner when faced with adversity. Instead like the lyrics from Andra Day's song "Rise Up" - I'll rise up, In spite of the ache, I'll rise up, And I'll do it a thousand times again, For You" - she does just that.

On March 23rd at Spanish Point Boat Club from 6pm-8pm I will be joining Denise and rising up to shave my head. I will be rising up to raise funds towards research to eradicate childhood cancer. I will be rising up, because I have a choice to shave my head and Brennan did not. I invite you to please join me in this celebration of becoming Bald for My Birthday.

J&B's Woodfired Pizza will be available to buy pizzas and the bar will be open to purchase drinks with a selection of wines from Gosling's chosen by Andrew Holmes. Please email me to let me know if you and/or your family, friends, co-workers are able to attend so that I have an estimate of attendees. Thank you!

Every 2 minutes a parent will hear the words “your child has cancer”. Those 4 words change everything and treatment takes over the family’s life. Even more devastating, 1 of 5 kids diagnosed with cancer in the US and Canada will not survive. Of those that do survive, 2 out of 3 kids will have long term side effects from the treatment.

It doesn’t have to be this way and we can come together to change the statistics and the lives of children.

Ways to help….
