Our family was knocked sideways December 5th, 2016 when our older son was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in his left tibia. The world around us stopped. He was born deaf in one ear and is Autistic. He has gone through a lot already and came so far! Why does he have cancer!?! He went through two cycles (4 rounds of treatment each) of chemo, a limb salvage surgery, and then four more cycles (16 rounds!) with hardly a break! He went through so much and each time he went in for treatment, he just didn’t think he could handle it. But we told him, “You got through this before, you can do it again!” And he would say, “Yes, I will not give up!” We are so blessed that he is home. He’s battered and worn but he is home. He has scans every three months, and two of those have been clear (six months NED!).
He is supporting me in shaving my head, something he wouldn’t let me do a year ago. I am doing this for my son and for those we met along our journey! Childhood cancer needs more funding for research! They only get 4% of funding for cancer research! It’s not enough!
