I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

Why do I shave my head?

In 2010, I met someone who had recently shaved his head. When I asked about it, he told me about St. Baldrick’s and how it raised money for childhood cancer research. Asking questions about someone’s bald head is a primary reason we do it – to help raise awareness! I thought “I can do that!” I figured it was an easy way to get involved and do something great at the same time. The first time I was so nervous, but because people had given money, literally a price “on my head.” I knew that I had to go through with it. That was March 2011. Since then I have participated every year, with my goal being 7 years, at which time I will become a Knight of the Bald Table! Thanks to friend and family who have been very generous with donations, I have been able to raise almost $11,000 in the 6 years. It is very much a group effort. I have made a few great friends during my fundraising and heard heart-breaking stories from parents who have lost their children from cancer. It may seem like a small thing to do, be bald for a while, but it really does mean a lot to those involved.
