Dear Friends,
As many of you know, I have joined with St. Baldrick's to shave my head to raise money to support childhood cancer research. Because kids with cancer often lose their hair during treatment, "shavees" for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation show their support by shaving their heads voluntarily, and inspiring friends and family to donate money to support childhood cancer research. On March 12th, I will get my head shaved for this great cause.
You may wonder how I got involved? I am part of a group called "Coaches United Against Cancer." Through my participation with the state ODP program, I learned of a group of coaches that were working to support this charity. An old friend from CJSA, Austin Daniels, who has since moved to Arizona, struggled with cancer himself and is now leading an effort out there. It just seemed like the right thing to do. We're also a bit competitive and hoping to outraise Austin and his AZ coaches.
Many of us been touched by this disease and childhood cancer is especially cruel. I’m hoping to lean on my friends, family, clients, coaches, players, former players and soccer buddies to raise $8,000 in the next few weeks. I'm off to a great start, but need your support to get to my goal. St. Baldrick’s is a great charity with a tremendous record for putting the money to work.
I’m rooting for a warm March, since I’ll have no hair, but I’m also really rooting for you to help make a difference for those suffering from childhood cancer.
Thanks for considering,
Jim Leahy
