I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

2 Goals.... 1 Great Cause
Goal 1- Raise $ 2,500 for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation Goal 2- Finish the race Cause- Cancer Research
I've answered the call and need your help to raise $2,500 for the St Baldrick's Foundation.

PLEASE HELP ME EXCEED MY GOAL At 7am on June 10th with a newly shaved head, I will take the plunge into the chilling waters of the San Francisco Bay to start the Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon and a 1.5 mile swim to San Francisco from 'The Rock' . The shaved head is to stand in solidarity with kids and adults fighting cancer and to raise money to find cures.
OK, so shaving my head is not much of a departure from my normal "DO" but competing in the race is anything but normal for me. For some reason I’ve always wanted to do a triathlon (no, it’s not because I love tight fitting spandex) but have never seemed to find the time. I turned 40 several months back and decided to make completing one a goal for the year. I figured that since this is my first (and quite possibly my last) triathlon that is might as be a doozie and doing it for a cause makes it even better. Escape is one of the most coveted events for triathletes making it quite tough to gain entry. Most athletes must quality at preliminary events, be one of the luck few to draw a lottery slot or commit to a raising funds for a charity like me. After researching the partner foundations, I approached the St. Baldrick’s Foundation about participating on their behalf. I’m happy to say that I have been accepted to the team.

Why Saint Baldrick’s?
The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives. I wanted to find a cause that I had a personal connection, and like many of you reading this, I have seen what cancer can do to a person and their personal network. One of my best friends from childhood lost his battle to cancer at a very young age and another good buddy is presently doing rounds with the beast. I also have many dear friends that have had loved ones affected by the disease. While I have not had much experience with childhood cancer, I can only imagine how traumatizing it must be for a young child and their family.
The battle can be won! While there have been many advancements, there is much more to be done. I only hope that the small amount of money I raise will go a long way. Maybe fund that one day of research or one piece of lab equipment that helps a researcher make a crucial breakthrough.

About the race:
The Swim - 1.5 miles of bone chilling water (about 55 degrees), strong currents, and waves from Alcatraz Island to the shores of San Francisco.
The Bike - 18 miles of hilly terrain through the beautiful Presidio and Golden Gate Park.
The Run - 8 miles; 2 big climbs, 2 miles on sand, and a brutal 400 step sand ladder ascent. This is what keeps you honest.
------ Sounds fun right? Well it certainly will be a challenge for me but nothing close to the challenge faced by children and adults fighting cancer.
I dedicate this race to all of them and draw my inspiration from their courage and their strength.
Please help me reach my goal with a donation of any thing you can spare. It is all going to a great organization and a great cause.
