During my training in Pediatrics, I’ve witnessed the tragedy of childhood cancers. I’ve seen the children from the diagnosis, at their chemotherapy infusions, during their follow-up visits, and when things do not go well. I’ll never forget the strength I witnessed of a baby learning to walk while receiving chemo. I’ll also never forget the fearlessness of the parents who live at the hospital.
In my first semester of medical school, I lost my mother to breast cancer in 2013. I lost the person who motivated me to become a doctor and whose enthusiasm for making kids happy helped me discover Pediatrics as a specialty. Seeing the effects of cancer, chemotherapy, and how this affected my family is behind my motivation for participating in St. Baldrick’s. Like many of the other participants, I hope no child has to experience what I’ve seen and no family has to endure what these families have to endure.
Over the years of my residency, I’ve built a reputation around my hair. I’ve gotten nick names such as “Johnny Bravo” or “Jimmy Neutron.” I am shaving my head in hopes of raising awareness and funds for research for putting an end to childhood cancers. It’s okay if you are unable to donate, but please take the time to share about our cause and help us get closer to accomplishing our goal!
Thank you!
