For the 12th straight year, I am shaving my head for the St. Baldricks foundation! Every year, since 2006, I have shaved my head for three reasons:
1. As a show solidarity for those battling cancer, to pay tribute to those who have conquered cancer, to honor the families of those effected by cancer, and in memory of the lives that were lost to this horrible disease.
2. As a platform to raise money that will go towards funding for childhood cancer research grants that will fund new medical advances that will continue to lower the the fatality rate of children diagnosed with cancer.
3. As a way to honor my father, Dr. Bruce Bostrom, who for over 20 years has worked as a pediatric oncologist for the Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota. There he has also served as director of hematology and oncology. In this role he has contributed to the research into new treatments and therapies for his patients to increase their survival rate and lower the amount of pain they will inevitably experience with their treatment.
My father has dedicated his entire career to saving the lives of children diagnosed with cancer. He has been there as his patients have gone through remission and have went on to live long and healthy lives, with some even becoming pediatric oncologists themselves. Unfortunately, he has had to attend way too many of his patients funerals after trying everything he could to save them. Many lives that could have been saved back then had there been the medical advances that are around today. Medical advances made with the financial support of organizations like St. Baldricks, and personal donations from caring individuals, like you.
My father is now in his mid 60's and he continues to fight alongside his patients who are battling cancer. He does so because he knows that as long as cancer exists, there is still more to do in the fight. He has seen the survival rates drastically improve over time with new medical advances. Just imagine what could happen if we all come together and support this research. I want to live in a world where everyone who is diagnosed with cancer can find a cure. Until that day, we must all keep fighting.
Cancer affects us all, and we all can do our part to increase the survival rate of children diagnosed with cancer. Please show your support by making a donation to St. Baldricks and on my head. Together we can make a difference. Together we can save lives.
From the bottom of my heart, Thank you
