My friend Kellie Lescoe lost her fight at the age of 18 all too recently. She was an amazing young lady. I'm shaving my head to raise money for childhood cancer research. It is with great sadness that Holy Trinity High School announces the passing of Kellie Lescoe, Class of 2018.

Kellie, diagnosed with cancer as a first grader, fought a courageous battle throughout her childhood and teen years. Despite the ravages of the disease which eventually took her life, Kellie kept a positive and hopeful outlook.

Kellie, the salutatorian of her 8th grade class at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School, entered Holy Trinity in September of 2014. She graduated in June of 2018, receiving a thunderous standing ovation from her classmates as she walked across the stage to receive her diploma. Kellie maintained a weighted average of over 102% and ranked seventh in her class. She was accepted to the National Honor Society, as well as to the Science, Math, Spanish, and Quill and Scroll Honor Societies. She was on the highest academic honor roll every quarter of every year, and graduated with a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation with Honors, and with Mastery in Math. Once, when asked how she accomplished so much despite her illness, she responded happily, “School’s just my thing!”

Kellie won the prestigious Paul Scharpf Scholarship in her sophomore year, awarded to the most outstanding member of the class. In addition, her peers voted at Homecoming to award Kellie the Titan Spirit Award. Kellie was a member of the yearbook staff, the Volunteer Club, and competitive math clubs, making many substantial contributions to the Holy Trinity community even while undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York City.

Kellie decided on a career as a pediatric oncologist, and had planned to start her studies at Fordham University this past September. Sadly, however, her illness forced her to withdraw before the fall semester began.

The Holy Trinity community mourns the loss of this true Titan, Kellie Lescoe, and offers its heartfelt condolences and prayers to Kellie’s twin brother, Shane, also a member of the Class of 2018, to her older brother, Ricky, and to her parents, Rich and Lisa Lescoe of Wantagh
