He will be forever remembered for his passion for his family, photography, writing, and history. He was a photographer, poet, historian, and short-fiction writer. His work in these areas has appeared internationally since 1965. Additionally, his art has served as cover and interior illustrations for some fifty books, anthologies, and journals. Over ten thousand of his documentary images reside in the permanent collections of military museums and fire department historians across the country.

Len was also passionate about raising funds for St Baldrick. Every April for the last 10+ years he would write and share a daily poem, then publish them for all who donated to his fundraiser, over the years $42,853 was raised.
