My Story

Thank you for supporting me and the more than 300,000 kids worldwide who will be diagnosed with cancer this year. By sharing the gifts of your time, talent and money with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, you're supporting research to give all kids with cancer a better chance for a cure.

Sara Beth was diagnosed at 4 months old. She has a low-grade glioma located on her hypothalamus. We first realized something was wrong when her eye crossed in and our ophthalmologist requested an MRI. We had no idea that on October 25th, 2019, our lives would change forever.

Her first year of chemo treatment shrank her tumor by more than half, but also caused her to lose both her hair and her hearing. Although her hair has grown back, she now permanently wears hearing aids. Her other treatments have kept the tumor somewhat stable, but eventually, her tumor started to grow through all three of those treatments.

We are currently enrolled in a clinical trial. The trial drug appeared to be keeping her tumor stable, however during the 11 months on the drug, Sara Beth stopped growing vertically (height-wise) and her doctor team has decided that is too dangerous to continue without knowing that her vertical growth will return. We are currently on a break from the drug to make sure that this side effect is temporary.

The other side effects we have been dealing with on the trial drug are extreme skin issues including limiting all time in the sun, skin rashes, and (this is a new one!) white hair instead of no hair.

She is a strong, sassy, warrior princess who will win the heart of anyone she spends time with! Her big brother, her dad, and I are her biggest fans and all of us are so grateful for the time we get to spend with her.
