My Story

Thank you for supporting me and the more than 300,000 kids worldwide who will be diagnosed with cancer this year. By sharing the gifts of your time, talent and money with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, you're supporting research to give all kids with cancer a better chance for a cure. Bodie’s caringbridge is bodieseifert…. Bodie is the sweetest 2.5 year old. He’s my miracle baby and my whole wide world!! Any prayers and/or help is GREATLY appreciated!  I thought I’d write and tell y’all our journey this past 4.5 weeks.   So I took Bodie to children’s highlands ranch urgent care 4.5 weeks ago because he was sick.  They said he had a lung infection and they suctioned his nose-both blood and mucus came out!   But they said treat it like a cold. No meds.  Go home.  And that the fire smoke and dry climate was the cause.  A little over a week later I took him to his pediatrician because he still wasn’t himself. They said he had an ear infection and neck spasms.  And have him amoxicillian.  Oral. He hates oral meds. So from the lung infection. I had been managing his temps with rectal Tylenol suppositories.  As needed.  He refused the amoxicillin. So the next day he got 2 penicillin shots at the pediatrician.  Then 2 days later. He was worse. High fever. Acting off. Body aches.  So I took him back to urgent care. They have him 3 more penicillin shots for his ear. And said he was moving/walking funny from the shots in his legs.  We left.  Then a few days later. He was really struggling to move.  So i took him BACK to the ER/urgent care.  And I said, bawling, something is wrong with my son.  We aren’t leaving without answers.   That was at 2:30 pm last Tuesday!!   We were at highlands ranch children’s.  They did X-rays, blood draws, ct, mri-the list goes on.  Then we were admitted.  All the dr’s were stumped.  Then we saw Dr E on Wednesday.  He ordered an MRI with dye. That needed to be done at Children’s Anchutz. We were transferred here by ambulance wed pm. Thinking the MRI would show a spine infection.    Thursday they did the special MRI.  and at 4 pm I was given the awful news he had 2 tumors on his adrenal glands and it was cancer.  I lost it; devastation As anyone would.  Friday they did surgery. To biopsy his bone marrow. And tumors.  And to put his port in!!    He’s been getting iv fluids this whole time.  As well as torodol. And Tylenol.  He’s had several other procedures.  And his nose tube put in.  We got word confirming it’s cancer. And the MIBG scan showed all of the cancer areas-lymph nodes, skull, hips, in the tumors. And obv in his marrow.   We have a 16-20 month journey ahead!   But I mean it-Bodie is my heart and my world.  We will beat this together-with all of our village (you all!) Momma’s and daddy’s.  Listen to your gut. Advocate for you child!   It’s ok to be pushy when you know you’re not getting proper care and something isn’t right!   And most of all. Adore your kiddos. Don’t take a second for granted ? We love you ALL!   With tears of gratitude.  Emily
