My Story

Ava Percy is 17 months old and she was born on June 3rd 2019 as happy and healthy baby! She is the youngest of her 6 siblings. Around her first birthday she started to limp quite often. She was getting more and more ear infections closer together(she had had a couple before but never so close together) she was getting a little more pale and she also had a yellow jaundice like tone to her complexion as well. She was getting random fevers and when she was on antibiotics for ear infections she never stopped running a fever and that was another sign something wasn't right. She was starting to become more and more irritable, restless, and not herself. If felt like we were going to the dr alot and I kept telling them I think she could have an iron deficiency or maybe she is anemic. We didnt get any kinda of test done right away we just "treated the ear infection" so after being on antibiotics i called the dr and said shes still running a fever and limping all the time and not wanting to walk. We then set another appointment. After weeks and weeks The dr seen her yellow tone then and reccomended we go to another hospital for her to have labs and an ultrasound done on her hips. The labs ended up not getting done for whatever reason and her ultrasound came back perfect. We went back to the dr the next day and she reccomended then we should go to another doctor. I got an appointment scheduled for the next day luckily. We got in there and they checked her hemoglobin and blood levels. They told me she was severely anemic and her hemoglobin was so low . They told us we needed to get to cardinal glennon hospital as soon as possible. We left straight from the doctor and went right to st.louis which is about 1hr and 30min away from home. We arrived at the hospital went to the emergency entrance got right in and started labs and tests. Her now primary doctor came in after a bit and tried her best to console me and my baby with the worst news I could ever imagine hearing "your babygirl has cancer" those words haunt me so my little ava"bean" was diagnosed with (ALL) leukemia she started treatment right away. We stayed at cardinal glennon for about a month continuing chemotherapy. This is no easy road to be on and we are going to stay and fight day by day and we will get through this stronger than ever!
