My Story

November 21st 2018, Vinny was diagnosed with stage 3 group 3 rhabdomyosarcoma of the prostate and bladder. Vinny is at week 37 of 67 chemotherapy treatments. He also received 30 proton radiation therapy treatments to the 8cm mass in Jacksonville, Florida. The tumor has shrunk in half but the radiation has caused side effects. The original plan included a recontruction of his bladder with bowel tissue after radiation. But, due to colon and rectal burns from radiation that is no longer possible. He is now incontinent and back in diapers. The near future is still un known if he will need a urostomy bag and/or colostomy bag. The radiation also caused neuropathy in his legs and feet. He gets weekly physical therapy trying to avoid getting bilateral hip replacements. There is a tremendous amount of anxiety waiting for the next round of scans, but at this point we are so lucky to still be a family of 5.
