My Story

Charlie is the best thing to ever happen to us. Since stepping onto the scene 16 months ago, he has opened more minds and touched more hearts than all of my years combined. We were prepared for Charlie to have Down syndrome at birth; we were not prepared to have him 7 weeks early or prepared for his serious blood disorder, Transient Myeloproliferative Disorder (TMD), a condition that occurs in 5-10% of babies with Down syndrome, involving an excess of immature white blood cells that disrupt healthy platelet production. 25% of babies with TMD will develop leukemia by age 3, and despite Charlie's strong, healthy body initially resolving the blood disorder for many months, we received his diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia on April 4, 2016. His treatment began on April 13 at St. Jude Affiliate/Novant Health Hemby Children's Hospital and last for approximately 5 months and Charlie has received glowing reports at every blood check since! Thank you for supporting Chalie and the more than 300,000 kids worldwide who will be diagnosed with cancer this year. By sharing the gifts of your time, talent and money with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, you're supporting research to give all kids with cancer a better chance for a cure.
