My Story

Thank you for supporting Andrew and the more than 300,000 kids worldwide who will be diagnosed with cancer this year. By sharing the gifts of your time, talent and money with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, you're supporting research to give all kids with cancer a better chance for a cure. March 2017, Andrew began occasional morning vomiting and headaches. His symptoms came and went...they were so random. The last two weeks of April, his symptoms became more pronounced. He went to the pediatrician, optomitrist, and ED the week prior to diagnosis. Literally, one week Andrew pitched four innings of a high school baseball game...the next week he had CT of his brain, followed by MRIs, which led to a 10 1/2 hour surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his brain. The doctor removed the entire tumor and it had not spread. He spent 22 days in Nationwide Children's Hospital which included time on the rehab floor where he learned to walk again. Once discharged, he spent five days at home prior to traveling to Boston, MA for six weeks of proton beam irradiation to his brain and spine. He returned home to Ohio and after a five week "break", he began a 9 cycle chemotherapy program that spans 48 weeks. If treatment stays on schedule, he will finish July 2018. Andrew is currently a junior in high school, taking AP Gov, AP Lang, and Pre Calc. He recently reached a "normal" teenage milestone and got his driver license.
