My Story

Brooklyn was an above average 3 year old who loved danger. Which suits her well because Danger is her middle name! She loves to run, and swimming is her favorite. She started showing symptoms that something was wrong neurologically. Her symptoms were noticeable for 3 days when we took her to the pediatrician, who then suggested getting a scan at a near by children's hospital. We found a baseball sized tumor growing inside one of the ventricles in her brain- Anaplastic Ependymoma, class 3. She went into emergency surgery and we stayed in the hospital for 30 days trying to stabilize her. After the tumor was removed, Brooklyn was weakened on her right side and could not walk or sit up on her own. We were accepted at St Judes Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee and are currently undergoing proton beam radiation in hopes of preventing the tumor from coming back. The best news? She's running again, and the wheelchair is collecting dust in the closet!!
