My Story

Cameren 16 years old was diagnosed with Mylodysplastic syndrome which is the first stages of leukemia, March 12th 2015 at the age of 15. He missed a few days of school because he wasn't feeling well, I took him to his family Doctor, he was tested positive for the flu, right before we were ready to leave the Doctor asked if he could run a blood draw just to make sure everything else was ok, which he did, 11pm that night March 11th 2015 I received the call from his family doctor telling me to rush him to Rainbow. We were confused, we didn't know why we needed to rush him to Rainbow for the flu.. His platelets were dropped down to 15,000 (normal 150,000) which is how we found out he had cancer and has had for 2 months prior to us even knowing. He went through chemo and had his bone marrow transplant using 2 baby cord bloods May 14th 2015, he was cancer free for 1 year. May 14th 2016 we got the call his cancer had came back. He underwent heavy chemo and radiation for the second time, this time I was his donor, they removed my cells and gave them to cameren July 21, 2016 (my birthday, which was the greatest gift I could get) for his 2nd bone marrow transplant. December 23rd 2016 we got the call 2 days before Christmas that his cancer has come back for a has had for 2 months prior to us even knowing.
