My Story

Update:  Sadly, Jimmy gained his angel wings on 4/27/2020.  He fought until the very end.  We will never forget his precious smile and the light that he was to all.

Thank you to all that continue to honor and remember Jimmy.  Our family is so very grateful.

——————————————
Our story:
Jimmy was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in September of 2015, at 6 years old.  For the first 9 months, Jimmy underwent very intense chemotherapy, then switched to the maintenance part of his treatment in July of 2016.  Jimmy was not in the clear, but things had been looking up.  We went on his Make-A-Wish trip to Disney in 10/2018.  He was scheduled to complete treatment on 1/4/2019.  We were looking so forward to that.  Then, the unimaginable happened.  On 12/13/18, our precious Jimmy had to be rushed into emergency brain surgery. Pressure was building in his brain due to a large tumor. He became unresponsive and was having seizures. Thank God the emergency response team at the hospital acted quickly. There were 10+ doctors and nurses working on him. It’s the most scared I have been in my whole entire life. He was sedated and on a breathing machine and we were beside ourselves.  We found out that Jimmy has Medulloblastoma.  Our strong, brave little boy that had been fighting leukemia for 3 years and 3 months now had brain cancer. His doctor said that this cancer is not related to his leukemia. He just got another kind of cancer. His doctor also said he has never seen anything like this. How can lightning strike twice?  Now, Jimmy will undergo another year of treatments.  Chemo treatments that come with a boatload of side effects.  His body never had a chance to recover from the first cancer treatments and now...more.
To say we were in shock is an understatement. To say we were devastated is an understatement. Our baby was supposed to finish his treatment for leukemia on January 4th and now, he started new treatment for brain cancer.  However, he is so very amazing!  On days when you just wonder if he can handle anymore, he does.  And he handles it all with a smile!

Luckily, our family has an amazing support system!  We can feel the love and support all around us.  It’s what gets us through every single day!

However, we need to do better with funding for Pediatric Cancer Research.  We need to fight for Jimmy and all of the other kid's fighting this horrible disease so that no other child has to suffer.

Thank you for supporting Jimmy and the more than 300,000 kids worldwide who will be diagnosed with cancer this year. By sharing the gifts of your time, talent and money with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, you're supporting research to give all kids with cancer a better chance for a cure.
