My Story

Makayla is an 8 year old who is energetic, intelligent, and loved by everyone. She has touched many hearts along her journey to recovery. She loves karate, camping, riding her bike, swimming, and just hanging out with family and friends. On November 22, 2014, Makayla was taken to immediate care for a CT scan with results that there was a mass in her cerebellum. She was then rushed to the ER at CDH. The week of Thanksgiving, on November 24, she had emergency surgery to remove the 3 ½ centimeter tumor. The tumor they found was cancerous and Makayla had stage IV Anaplastic Medulloblastoma. She has had to have many treatments and has been a warrior all the way through. She started with six weeks of Chemo and radiation which was completed on February 4, 2015, and an MRI to show that they had gotten everything. Because the type of tumor Makayla has is aggressive, she needs additional treatments which will include 6 more months of chemotherapy that will require a 3 day stay in the hospital once a month, beginning on March 20, 2015. Makayla has impacted many lives whether she knows it or not. She has amazed everyone with her cheerfulness and optimism through the tough time; she refused to let cancer get the best of her. Thank you for supporting me and the more than 300,000 kids worldwide who will be diagnosed with cancer this year. By sharing the gifts of your time, talent and money with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, you're supporting research to give all kids with cancer a better chance for a cure.
