My Story

There is no moment more painful or terrifying then hearing "Your child has cancer."  Evan was a seemingly perfectly healthy child with loads of energy who developed a limp over a summer weekend.  The week that followed included two ER visits and an urgent care trip as his limp got worse.  The urgent care put a cast on his foot thinking he had a minor fracture they couldn't find.   The next day, his other leg showed the same symptoms and we took him to Albany Medical Center.  It was there in the ER when the doctor first assured us, "we don't know what's wrong, but we will keep you until we can figure it out."  Their compassion towards Evan was amazing.  The next morning we were told of Evan's diagnose. We were terrified but the doctors, who are funded in part through grants from St. Baldrick's, helped us understand and face our new reality.  We spent the next week in the hospital and then returned home to a new life. Thanks to the dedication and care of Evan's great doctors and nurses, he has just moved into maintenance and returned to school. He is a happy, social, energetic young boy who loves animals and super heroes.Thank you for supporting Evan and the more than 300,000 kids worldwide who will be diagnosed with cancer this year. By sharing the gifts of your time, talent and money with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, you're supporting research to give all kids with cancer a better chance for a cure.
