Alyssa woke up one morning and couldn't walk. Her leg hurt so bad. We thought it was growing pains but when it persisted we took her to the doctor. A few months and a couple misdiagnoses later we learned the truth. Alyssa had a tumor in her femur. It was a rare cancer called Ewing Sarcoma. She had almost a year of treatment which consisted of 5 surgeries, 115 doses of chemo, 9 blood transfusions, 7 platelet transfusions and more than 68 nights spent in the hospital. During one those surgeries they removed 2/3 of her femur and hip ball and replaced it with titanium and cobalt
Her treatment worked! Today Alyssa is 12 years old and 6 months NED. She is regaining her strength and testing the limits of her leg. We are so thankful to the staff at Seattle Children's Hospital for taking such amazing care of our daughter.
