My Story

Teagan Leland Annis was born on February 12, 2013. She was a strong and happy baby, but at the age of six weeks she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. It was a pea-sized tumor on the 3rd cranial nerve where it originates from the brain stem; a rare occurrence in a hard to reach place. After two brain surgeries to obtain a biopsy, the tumor was diagnosed as a highly malignant Atypical Teratoid/Rhabdoid Tumor (AT/RT). She was given a tiny chance of survival. Teagan started chemotherapy at age 4 months, at which time the tumor had increased in size and spread creating four additional lesions in her brain. With 8 months of intense chemotherapy, she is now No Evidence of Disease. The main tumor has significantly reduced in size and shows no malignancy on MRI scans--perhaps a shadow of dead cells; the four satellite lesions have disappeared entirely. Teagan's treatment has been very difficult on her, but her happy personality shines through. She just turned a year old, and so far has beat the toughest of odds.
