At 5 months old Kipton was diagnosed with Infant Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. We took him to the doctor for weird "bruising" on his legs, irritability, sleeplessness, and being pale. His pediatrician knew as soon as she saw them and had blood work ordered. Kipton was transferred to Children's Hospital that day where he stayed in the PICU receiving blood and platelets so he could have his surgery to place the central line. For the next several months Kipton spent most of his time in the hospital receiving chemo, only coming home for short stays. Around Thanksgiving it was determined that Kipton was still MRD positive. (Minimal Residual Disease) He would need a life saving bone marrow transplant. We were lucky enough to find a perfect match and on Feb 10th 2012 at 11 months old he got his new marrow. He spent the next 3 months in the hospital recovering and 9 months at home recovering. Today he is an energetic, outgoing, funny 7 year old who will be starting 2nd grade! He has been cancer free since his transplant and we pray he continues to be cancer free.
