My Story

Codey has been a huge inspiration to so many people. Diagnosed at the age of 6 with Neuroblastoma, relapsed in August 2010 a month before his 12th birthday. Was declared NED after a few months of high dose chemo, intense radiation and extremely painful antibody therapy. But this battle for his life has only begun. In June 2011, the day after Codey drove in a Soap Box derby, he became very sick. We rushed him to the hospital only to find out his life was in serious danger, he was going into shock. His intestines had flipped behind scar tissue and strangulated. This was the result of the harsh cancer therapies. He was rushed into the OR to save his life. Since that day, he has had 5 more surgeries, his intestines are in failure. They cannot function because of the chemo and radiation. Hes also developed severe hemmoragic cystitis. Hes cancer free and dealing with more now then when he had cancer. He is not aloud to eat and is on a continuous IV nutrition and fluids. We need to find better ways to treat and cure these children. No child should ever have to go thru what Codey goes thru. With all these set backs, Codey has a very caring heart and a wonderful upbeat personality. He wants to play for the Steelers when hes older and go to culinary school where he wants to open his own restaurant. Nothing keeps him down. He is a true HERO.
