My Story

Karlie was diagnosed with Anaplastic Ependymoma, a grade 3 brain tumor at only 11 months. Doctors were able to remove 70% of an "enormous" tumor, the size of an adult fist. The rest of the tumor was too dangerous to remove because it was wrapped around a main artery and brain stem. After surgeries, chemo, and 30 radiation treatments, Karlie did well for 5 1/2 years. On September 10, 2013, the day before Karlie's 7th birthday, we learned Karlie's cancer was back and she had 2 new tumors. Karlie had surgery to remove one tumor and chemo for the other tumor. Chemo was not successful. She completed another 30 radiation treatments in Boston, MA. We are currently watching the remaining tumor and she is having MRI's every three months. Our hopes are that the tumor is dead and no new tumors grow.  Karlie loves to play, go to the beach, play with puppies, go to the park, paint, sing and dance. She is very strong minded and wins over everyone's heart. She is a fighter!
