My Story

Adam was 15 months old when he was diagnosed with Stage IV Neuroblastoma. His tumor originated on his adrenal gland and spread throughout his entire abdomen and his legs. He completed 8 cycles of chemotherapy, a tumor resection and 6 cycles of Accutane therapy. Adam is a very spirited little boy who is strong, energetic and very loving. Throughout his treatment he was very strong and brave and always in good spirits (even for those port accesses :-)). He enjoyed his trips to the hospital and flirting with all of the wonderful nurses!!! I am extremely grateful to my Army unit and chain of command for the support (and time off) they gave to me while my son was fighting his cancer. I am even more grateful to the doctors and nurses who treated him and who dedicate their lives to treating kids like Adam and to finding a cure. Adam does not understand that he had cancer or what it means as he is still too young, but for over a year chemo, transfusions, scans, surgeries, pokes, disgusting medicine and hospital visits were his way of life and those are things he does remember and still talks about. I pray that the day comes soon that a cure will be found for all cancers.
