My Story

Abbey was a freshman in high school (age 14) in January, 1996 when she was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma of her right tibia. An active "normal" teenager, Abbey's disease proved that anyone is at risk. She loved school and had danced ballet and tap since she was three years old. Her family and friends were devastated, but each day Abbey would give them her beautiful smile and they knew they could live through the next day. Throughout her four years of treatment, surgeries and her recurrence of a brain tumor, Abbey continued to go to high school and then college, The Ohio State University -- even pledging a sorority months before she passed away at home on August 3, 2000. For the last 21 years her family and friends have organized the Canton event to honor Abbey and the life she used to touch so many others.
