My Story

Kyle seemed to be your normal run of the mill 10 year old boy. He enjoyed climbing trees, hanging out with his friends, playing basketball and riding his bike. He tormented his little sister and would never admit that she was really his best friend. He was definitely a "momma's boy" and wasn't afraid to admit it. But inside of Kyle was a very old and wise soul. He enjoyed reading and would lay in his bed until the early hours of the morning writing poetry and songs. He loved to draw and sketch. He could hold a conversation with the most intellectual adult and not miss a beat. Kyle was a very nurturing child, especially toward smaller children and animals. A special little boy he was indeed. After several months of going doctor to doctor to see what was going on with my baby, he was finally diagnosed with AML type M5 with a FLT3+ gene mutation on January 11, 2009. Exactly one year later, after treatments, BMT, a birthday, a relapse, more treatment... we were told that we would lose him. He fought for nearly 8 more months. We lost him on August 1, 2010. This horrible monster had taken him from us, just weeks before his 12th birthday.
