My Story

Teddy, 10, was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor that grew from the middle of his back inside the spinal column up through the lower part of his brain. Medevaced from Durango to The Children's Hospital in Denver, CO on January 12, 2010. On January 14th, Teddy underwent extensive surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible. They managed to debulk almost half of it. On March 2nd, Teddy underwent a second surgery to insert the chemo port in his chest. He will receive chemotherapy through this port for the next 14 months. This specific kind of therapy has demonstrated a 50% cure rate. If Teddy is not cured, he may be a candidate for a new breakthrough chemotherapy currently in research. This new therapy would specifically target his rare kind of tumor. Teddy’s parents are currently in the process of meeting with the heads of pediatric neuro oncology at The Children’s Hospital in Denver to discuss how to best develop funding for this next phase of research for Teddy and for other kids who have his kind of rare tumor. Check out the latest on Teddy’s blog at www.teamteddy.net.
