My Story

In April of last year (2008), at the age of two, Gabby was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Her third year on this planet has been one dictated by hospital visits, treatment schedules and her white blood cell count. Despite all that, however, Gabby has managed " as kids inexplicably do " to maintain the childish elements of wonderment, playfulness and joy. Gabby loves wearing sun dresses and having her nails painted (this week, they're purple!). Shes a big believer in the Crayola crayons made with glitter and is an expert in coloring outside the lines. Recently, Gabby has become very interested in marbles and carries them around the house with her in a Ziploc baggy. She, of course, enjoys Sponge Bob Square Pants and Dora the Explorer as well as Caillou and more recently, she has become a fan of Frances (Unfortunately, there are only 5 episodes on demand. We have watched them all many, many times). She likes fruit-bites, but only strawberry and turkey sandwiches and peanut-butter & jelly with the crusts cut off. Gabby throws her fair share of tantrums (I dare say, more than her fair share) but nothing speaks to love and warmth like having this little girls arms wrapped around your neck.
