By sharing the gifts of your time, talent and money with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, you're supporting research to give all kids with cancer a better chance for a cure. 2025 ended with an unexpected shock, what was thought of as just a rough month of an injury and illnesses back to back, were essentially indicators of a bigger situation. My face began to become more pale, I was not myself, just wanting to lay around and not eat. When my mom took me in for bloodwork on Friday December 26th 2025, little did we know our lives would change a few hours later. Mom received a call at 2am from the urgent care we went to for bloodwork, not just one phone call, 6 calls with a voicemail saying, I needed to be brought to the ER immediately for critical bloodwork labs. My platelets, RBC, WBC and hemoglobins were at critical lows. After what seemed like a never ending day in the ER Saturday morning, with numerous pokes, unsuccessful blood draws and collapsed veins, we were admitted to the hospital with high indicators of Leukemia. I got a blood transfusion that day and a few more times after that. We had a bone marrow biopsy scheduled that Monday, in which the oncologist knew instantly it was Leukemia based on the extreme difficulty of the pull. What would be a typical one minute pull for bone marrow fluid, was over 20 minutes for me, that is how dense my bone marrow is of Luekemia cells. The next day I had a port placed in my chest and Chemo began. We got discharged to go home Friday 1/2/26 and will begin our first phase of a 2-3 year treatment plan this week 1/7/26 twice a week. This has been a lot for my family and I, but I am staying strong, and keeping my spirits high.
