My Story

Karina, began getting sick in April, 2022. I took her into several places, trying to find answers, just to have her brushed off as having sinus issues. Finally took her to Children’s, of Detroit, to find out that she had hydrocephalus, and a 4.2 cm tumor, on top of the pituitary gland, in her brain. She was taken within hours, to emergency surgery to put a drainage tube into her brain, to regulate fluid. She had this in for almost 3 weeks, at which point they put in the shunt, then did the biopsy, to reveal that she has a optic pathway glioma, and she has lost sight in her left eye completely. She got her port inserted July, 8, 2022. Started chemotherapy that day, until end of October 2024. She continues with regular imaging via MRI, and extensive eye testing. Karina, has kept this incredibly amazing spirit about her, always smiling, seeing the beautiful things in her life, and never letting anything get her down. She is a true inspiration to those she surrounds. We’re so proud of her, and blessed to be a part of her life. Karina , will need more treatment, we just don’t know how soon that’s going to come. So for now, we stay grateful for a break in treatment, and cherish every single moment we get to have with Karina! She is a very loved little girl.
