My Story

Drew was first diagnosed with brain cancer (anaplastic ependymoma) at at age 6 1/2 in 2019. St. Louis Children's Hospital was Drew's home hospital, but he also was treated at Memorial Hermann Children's Hospital in Houston, TX and at St Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. For 6.5 years Drew battled brain cancer 5 times! Throughout his journey Drew had 20 total surgeries with 11 of those being on his brain.

Drew was the best big brother to Tyler and loved his service dog, Snoopy. Drew loved Pokémon, mascots, playing board games like chess, scrabble, and guess who, Disney cruises, and being famous. Drew wrote a book called Marshmallow Can Do Hard Things that was published in August 2025 through Books That Heal. Drew loved sharing his book and its lesson with others through author visits. He was proud that ALL proceeds from his book are split between the nonprofit Books That Heal that allows medical kids to write books and The Bennett Project (a local pediatric cancer non profit Drew chose). In the 4 months after his book was published, The Bennett Project already received over $5000 from his book!

Sadly Drew passed away peacefully at home surrounded by close family and friends on January 1, 2026 at 12.5 years old. Our hearts have a Drew-sized hole and we want so badly for all childhood cancers to find cures so no other children have to die at the hands of this disease.

It's because of kids like Drew that we need more funding for research for a cure.  Our kids deserve more!!
