My Story

Ellie is just one of many children fighting unimaginable battles every single day.

She was only 4 years old when she was first diagnosed with leukemia. When she relapsed at 8, it meant she had already spent more than half of her life fighting cancer. She has walked through hospital doors more times than I can count and endured procedures no child should ever experience.

Her relapse diagnosis was gut-wrenching for all of us—especially Ellie. When she finished treatment in 2020, we truly believed it was finally over. But before her relapse was officially confirmed, Ellie quietly confided in her teacher that she didn’t feel right and believed her cancer was coming back. A month or two earlier, she had been sick, and like so many parents trying to protect their child, we reassured her that she was okay.

The day we returned for her follow-up lab work changed everything—for the second time.

As parents, watching what Ellie has endured has been unbearably painful. Her dad and I would give anything to take this disease away, to cure her ourselves, to make it all disappear.

Despite everything, Ellie is a remarkable child. She loves puzzles, drawing, volleyball, and spending time with her friends. Like so many children facing cancer, she deserves a childhood filled with laughter—not hospital rooms and fear.

Thank you for supporting Ellie—and the more than 300,000 children worldwide who will be diagnosed with cancer this year.
