My Story

Shortly after Thanksgiving in 2022, Matthew was experiencing significant pain and swelling in his left knee. After seeing his primary doctor, Matthew went through a series of tests and scans. In January of 2023, Matthew was referred to an orthopedic oncologist and had more tests, scans, and a biopsy of his left knee. In February of 2023, Matthew was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma of his left femur. Matthew was referred to another oncologist for chemotherapy that works hand-in-hand with the orthopedic oncologist. In March of 2023, Matthew started his first of six rounds of chemo. In July of 2023, Matthew's orthopedic oncologist replaced part of Matthew's left femur and his entire knee with a prosthetic implant (limb salvage surgery). Matthew is currently in physical therapy and just finished his final round of chemo in September of 2023. Matthew is a student at UNLV and works part-time at our church as the pastor's assistant. He enjoys volunteering for VBS and Camp Hope each summer. Matthew plays guitar in the church band, along with his mom, dad, and sister who play other instruments. Matthew became an Eagle Scout in February of 2019. He loves to travel and enjoys the outdoors. Matthew is a video gamer, pinball enthusiast, and enjoys going to movies with his friends.
