My Story

Kimber was diagnosed with cancer on March 27, 2017, at the age of four. Just a few days prior her sister, Vada, was born. Kimber was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, a rare type of bone cancer. Initially, her cancer was localized to her right tibia. Kimber went through chemotherapy and limb salvage surgery and was considered cancer free for four years . During that time Kimber underwent several corrective surgeries on her leg. In February of 2021 Kimber relapsed, and this time her cancer was much more severe. It was back in the same leg and in her lungs . Kimber underwent more chemotherapy and radiation . When Kimber completed that treatment, she was put on a trial Chemotherapy for a year . That trial requires a lot of traveling between Ohio and Virginia. This summer Kimber completed the trial, and we celebrated her being off treatment. Then Just a few short months of being off treatment Kimber relapsed again. This time her treatment is quite different. We are no longer treating for a cure. We’re trying to prolong her life as long as possible. It’s been an incredibly long journey for our family, especially for our girls.
