A week ago, our world changed forever. My 5-year-old daughter, Katara, was diagnosed with AML. We are currently at the beginning of a grueling, 6-month journey in the hospital, and we are fighting with everything we have.
Her name, Katara, wasn’t chosen by accident. I named her after the brave, compassionate, and fierce protector from Avatar: The Last Airbender. In the show, Katara is a healer and a warrior who never gives up on her team, no matter how daunting the odds.
Today, my little girl is living up to that name in ways I never imagined. She is our own real-life Water Tribe warrior, facing this monster with a strength that leaves me in awe every single day.
As a single mom, I am taking on this fight alongside her while trying to balance working remotely from her hospital room to keep our home secure. It is the hardest thing I have ever done, but just like the bond between the characters in the Avatar team, we are not doing this alone. We are leaning on our village, our family, and our community to get us through the "valley" of these treatment cycles.

Katara Update August 1
We have some encouraging news to share.
Katara's latest bone marrow biopsy showed no detectable leukemia cells, which is a huge milestone and something we're incredibly grateful for. While this is wonderful news, her journey is far from over.
She is still in the middle of intensive treatment for Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). She recently completed another round of chemotherapy and, as expected, is experiencing many of the difficult side effects, including fatigue and feeling generally unwell. She also picked up a respiratory virus during her hospital stay, which means we're currently isolating in her room while she recovers.
For now, we're still living at the hospital for several weeks at a time while we wait for her blood counts to recover. Once she's strong enough, she'll get a short break at home before returning for the next cycle of chemotherapy.
We are taking things one day at a time and celebrating every victory, no matter how small. Thank you all for your continued prayers, encouragement, and support. It truly means the world to our family and helps carry us through these long days.
