My Story

When I was twelve, I was diagnosed with cancer, and it has had a major effect on my life. I started chemo and had to stop theatre, dance, piano, Boy Scouts, and everything else I loved doing. I have always had a positive attitude so I smiled my way through it, but it was a lot to handle at twelve years old. For two and half years I received medicine that was basically poison because it is the only cure we have right now. It helped immensely to have a strong support system of friends and family, but not everyone is lucky enough to have that. Cancer destroys. It is a horrible thing that just kills. It should not be allowed to control lives, especially the lives of children. Children deserve to have their childhood. I am now cancer free and able to "move on," but so many kids do not get to have that. It is extremely important to me that we keep fighting until every child is no longer a fighter but a survivor.
