My Story
Charlotte’s journey has been a wild one from the beginning. She was unexpectedly born 4 months early on September 10th, 2022. Due to extreme prematurity (1lb 10oz at birth), bilateral Grade II & Grade IV brain bleeds and difficulty eating, Charlotte spent 143 days in a level 3 NICU. Ultimately we transferred to a level 4 NICU for a g tube placement so we could bring our baby girl home! Unfortunately, when we transferred NICU’s and inquired about a genetics work up, we also got our cancer diagnosis. During a routine abdominal ultrasound for a suspicion of Beckwith Weidemann Syndrome, it was found that Charlotte had many tumors on her liver. After further testing to confirm, Charlotte was diagnosed both Beckwith Weidemann Syndrome (rare genetic syndrome) and Stage IV Hepatoblastoma (liver cancer). She got her g tube and central line placed, and started chemo immediately, all before ever getting to bring our little girl home. After 6 rounds of chemo and a life saving liver transplant, Charlotte beat her cancer just before her 1st birthday. She is now 3.5 years old and THRIVING! Charlotte is living her life and loving every moment along the way. We are so grateful for our girl, her strength, resilience and bravery. We will honor her, her fight and her life saving liver donation for the rest of our lives!
