My Story

February 2019 - How lucky we are to share that Georgia continues to THRIVE after cancer and will be celebrating her TENTH YEAR past diagnosis in December! She is now a freshman on the Dean's List at Tufts University, studying both Art and International Relations in a combined-degree program, and loving every minute of college life. It's particularly gratifying to see how happy she is knowing how hard she worked to make her dream come true, and we simply couldn't be more proud! Oh, wait - yes, we can. : ) Georgia continues to choose to advocate for other kids still in the fight against cancer. This summer, she will join the 46 Mommas in Washington, DC for the second time to meet with our representatives, share her story, and ask them to increase research funding for safer, less-toxic treatments and cures for all childhood cancers. She has been named the 2019 League Champion for the St. Baldrick's League of Legendary Heroes AND will be recognized as a Knight of the Bald Table for her seven years of volunteer service! So, yes, we're full to bursting and grateful to have so much to celebrate this year - and every year. You can celebrate with us by donating in honor of Georgia's 10th year past diagnosis HERE, supporting the Georgia and the Peachy Keens Hero Fund HERE, or keeping up with our busy girl on her blog HERE. Thank you for your unending support and generosity (just look at the many names on these lists) and for helping us take childhood back from cancer! February 2017 - Once again, our generous donors and Friends of Georgia answered our call for research funding last year and brought our Hero Fund total to over $140,000! And because we know firsthand how critical that research is to improving treatments and finding cures, we're back at it with the St. Baldrick's Foundation for our eighth consecutive year! This one in particular is the most special year because we're celebrating the milestone of all milestones ... On April 29th, Georgia will be FIVE YEARS OFF TREATMENT  and Officially CANCER-FREE!!! And to mark that incredible occasion, our girl is doing what she always does - thinking of others - and shaving her head! She's been waiting for the perfect time to be brave and go bald (by choice this go-round!), and we can't think of a more perfect time than now. You can support her with your generous donations here and your words of encouragement on the blog. We are so proud of her every day, but this act of giving really takes the cake. How blessed and lucky we are! Georgia continues to excel at just about everything she touches - schoolwork, art, writing, and swimming. She has begun the college search in earnest and will take the SAT and ACT this spring. It's hard to believe she has just one more year before The Big Jump, but she has worked so hard and deserves to follow her dreams, wherever they may take her. We desperately want all families with kids fighting cancer to be able to dream those big dreams, too - and we're doing everything we can to make the biggest one come true. Please join us in our efforts to conquer childhood cancer - donate, shave, or host your own event. We can do this! Follow Georgia's journey at: Keepin' Georgia on Your Mind and The Georgia and the Peachy Keens Hero Fund February 2016 - First off, THANK YOU to all of our donors for making our "15 for 15 in '15" campaign for the Georgia and the Peachy Keens Hero Fund a HUGE success! With your help, we raised over $50,000, and combined with our previous fundraising since 2010, we were able to fund a research grant - in our first year! We never dreamed we could get so far so fast, but thanks to you, we did! Dr. Corinne Summers is making a difference for kids like Georgia who are fighting Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, and it feels incredible to be a small part of that. You can find out more about her research on our Hero Fund page. Speaking of heroes, our girl is truly a SUPER one! She just turned 16 and is nearing her 4th year off treatment, all of which we are so grateful for. She is swimming, reading, and making art in any spare moment, and her hard work in school is evident in the number of letters she's started receiving from ... gulp! ... colleges! We're looking forward to dreaming big over the next two years and watching where her bright mind and beautiful heart lead her. We desperately want all families with kids fighting cancer to be able to dream those big dreams, too - and we're doing everything we can to make the biggest one come true. Please join us in our efforts to conquer childhood cancer - donate, shave, or host your own event. We can do this! Follow Georgia's journey at: Keepin' Georgia on Your Mind Georgia and the Peachy Keens Hero Fund February 2015 - Big news for the new year! To celebrate Georgia's FIFTH year past diagnosis, we have launched a St. Baldrick's Foundation Hero Fund: the Georgia and the Peachy Keens Hero Fund! Through this fund, we will be able to directly support particular research and possibly choose the grants we help fund. It's like having our own non-profit organization and is the perfect way to honor Georgia's fight and VICTORY over leukemia! So our initiative - and battle cry - for this year is "15 for 15 in '15!" We want to raise $15,000 for Georgia's 15th birthday in 2015, and we'd love for you to join us! Georgia continues to do very well in all areas, and we are grateful for that every day. She is ruling the school in 9th grade and joined the swim team this year! It is nothing short of breathtaking to watch our girl dive off those blocks, healthy and strong, and while she may not be the fastest one in the pool, no one swims with more heart and determination. Her checkups with the Survivorship Center have all been uneventful, and she'll be transitioning from 3-month follow-ups to 6-month soon! With all of Georgia's success, we are ever-mindful that not all families have the same outcome, and we are determined to do our part to change that. Please visit our Hero Fund page and Georgia's blog to see how you can help, and share the video that our in-house media technology wiz put together herself. It's going to be a great year, y'all! Georgia and the Peachy Keens Hero Fund: http://www.stbaldricks.org/hero-funds/georgia/ Keepin' Georgia on Your Mind: http://www.keepingeorgiaonyourmind.blogspot.com/ February 2014 - Hip Hip Hooray! In a few short weeks, Georgia will be celebrating TWO years off treatment! It's a huge milestone in many ways, not the least of which is her care will now be transferred to the LIVESTRONG Survivorship Center! That has a lovely ring to it - and describes our girl perfectly: she is living STRONG, and she is most definitely a SURVIVOR! Georgia is enjoying 8th grade and has developed a love for the theatre - can't imagine where she gets it from. She is very much looking forward to a class trip to Washington, D.C. this summer and then - gulp - high school next year! We continue to be amazed and inspired by all that she has accomplished, and we couldn't be more proud of the young woman she is becoming. Help us honor her courage, and that of the 46 children who will be diagnosed today, by supporting the St. Baldrick's Foundation and childhood cancer research. This could be the year, y'all - let's CONQUER! To follow Georgia's journey, check out her blog: www.keepingeorgiaonyourmind.blogspot.com. Thanks! less... April 2013 - And ... BOOM! One year off treatment! Georgia continues to amaze and inspire us every day, and we are beyond grateful to her treatment team, our family and friends, and allies like the St. Baldrick's Foundation. Our teenager(!) is thriving in 7th grade and has been recognized this year as a scholar, a leader, and a talented artist and poet. And she's still swimming like a fish and growing like a weed! While we are so thankful that Georgia soundly and decidedly kicked leukemia's butt, we know that this is a lifelong journey and have already begun to see the effects of her treatment impacting her daily life. So for Georgia, and for the 46 kids diagnosed every weekday, we will continue to raise awareness, hope, and funds for childhood cancer research. We are committed to fighting for cures and safer, less toxic treatments for these children, and with the creation of its Pediatric Cancer Dream Team with Stand Up To Cancer, we know that St. Baldrick's is leading the charge in this war. Please join us! July 2012 - Three is indeed a magic number! When we posted in February, Georgia was about three months from the end of her treatment. We are thrilled to say that she indeed claimed her VICTORY over leukemia on April 29, 2012! So on the day of the 46 Mommas Shave for the Brave in Los Angeles, we'll be celebrating her third month off treatment! Can you tell we like to make a big dang deal out of everything?! Yes! Throughout her 28 months of treatment, Georgia rose to the many challenges she was presented, and she not only met them, she blew right past them. This year alone, she ranked 4th in her grade, made her triumphant return to ballet class, and mastered the butterfly stroke. And it just so happens that she was conquering cancer at the same time. Georgia Lee is an absolute shining star, and she is honored to continue the fight for her fellow warriors. We can't wait to see what she does next, but it seems that world domination is imminent! February 2012 - Three is a magic number! In December, Georgia Lee celebrated her third birthday as a warrior, and now, she's about three months away from the END of her treatment!!! So, to mark this momentous occasion, The Peachy Keens want to raise $3,000 in our third year with St. Baldrick's - and Georgia's crazy momma is leading the charge as one of the 46 Mommas Shavin' for the Brave! It's been a long journey, but our girl has been amazing, and she's almost to the finish line. Help us honor her courage, and that of the 46 children who will be diagnosed today, by supporting the St. Baldrick's Foundation and childhood cancer research. She finished up her primary treatment in September and has been sailing through maintenance ever since. We had a few bumps in the road along the way, but overall, we couldn't be happier with the care Georgia Lee received and the incredible strength and grace with which she handled herself. We are so proud of her and so excited to be back with St. Baldrick's - we're ready to CONQUER! Make sure to watch her 2010 video - click the button up top! And to follow her journey, check out her blog: www.keepingeorgiaonyourmind.blogspot.com. Thanks! February 2010 - Georgia Lee Moore was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) on December 31, 2009, the day after her 10th birthday. A bright and creative little girl, she loves to read, draw, and dance - she's been taking ballet since she was 2 years old! In these first six weeks of treatment, she has been very active and engaged in her care, always asking questions and helping the nurses draw blood and administer her medicines when possible. She is getting quite an education right now, one that may inspire a future career? Regardless, we are so proud of the way Georgia Lee has faced ALL with enormous courage and grace, and we look forward to seeing her twirling around the kitchen again very soon!
