My Story

Carolyn was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in May 2020, when she was 8 years old. She underwent 2 1/2 years of treatment, and took her last dose of chemo in November 2022. In January 2023, she had her port removed, and has been in remission ever since. Though she has some ongoing challenges because of medications she received during treatment, she is a thriving middle schooler who spends her weekends playing electric guitar and having sleepovers with her best friends. Carolyn was part of a trial through the Children's Oncology Group (COG) and received an immunotherapy drug, Blinatumomab, as part of her treatment plan. At the time, Blina was not yet approved by the FDA. Because of data collected from the trial, Blina was approved by the FDA in June 2024. Blina is showing to be the best course of treatment for kids with a genetic mutation predisposing them to relapse, which Carolyn has. Her continued remission is due to her receiving Blina when she was in treatment. We have seen the real-time impact of funding pediatric cancer research -- it is the reason Carolyn is alive today. Continuing to fund research will save the lives of kids impacted by cancer in the years to come, and St. Baldrick's plays a vital role in that mission.
