Boden “Bo” was just four years old when our lives changed forever on June 27, 2026, with the words no parent ever expects to hear: your child has cancer. Bo was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) and immediately began treatment. Our funny, energetic, endlessly curious little boy handled the beginning of treatment with incredible strength. But shortly after completing induction, while his immune system was severely compromised, Bo developed mucormycosis—a rare and life-threatening invasive fungal infection. What followed was a six-week hospitalization, multiple surgeries and procedures, aggressive antifungal treatment, and a temporary interruption in his leukemia therapy. At his sickest, the little boy who was always running, talking and asking a million questions became so weak that he wasn’t walking or talking like himself. And then, little by little, Bo started coming back. He fought. He healed. He began getting stronger. His silly personality returned, along with his questions, his laughter and that unmistakable Bo smile. Thankfully, he was able to resume leukemia treatment, and today he continues his journey toward remission. But cancer is only one small part of who Bo is. Bo is obsessed with Cars, Lightning McQueen and Mater and anything with wheels or an engine. He loves NASCAR, sports, animals, music and singing, reading, imaginative play, being outside, and making the people around him laugh. Before cancer, he played T-ball and soccer and was starting to become interested in wrestling and jiu-jitsu. He is affectionate, hilarious, inquisitive and deeply loved. Boy is JOY. Our family and friends have become "Team Bo", surrounding him with love and cheering for our little racer every step of the way. We share Bo’s story because no four-year-old should have to be this brave. We hope that every person who raises money, shaves their head, advocates, or participates in Bo’s honor knows that there is a very real little boy behind that effort and a family that is profoundly grateful. We are incredibly proud to have Bo join the St. Baldrick’s community and grateful to everyone helping fund better, safer treatments for children like him. Bo will keep racing toward remission!
